Why caries is formed?
It is known that dental caries is a painful decay of teeth which is a process that appears due to the acidic environment and pathological microorganisms in the oral cavity. It is believed that dental caries is caused by deficiencies in oral hygiene. This is true, although scientists have discovered at least 400 theories about the onset of this disease. A common postulate of modern medicine is that both microorganisms and chemical factors influence the formation of caries. This means that there are certain bacteria which form caries in the oral cavity. And when in contact with carbohydrates in the mouth (for example, food debris) they contribute to the formation of an acidic environment. Then the acid influences on the tooth surface and gradually destroys the enamel. Eventually caries forms in the damaged tooth enamel and then it goes deeper into the dental tissue.
Why does tartar appears?
Dental tartar is considered as a limestone, a hard sediment that gradually appears in hard-to-reach areas of tooth enamel. Unlike dental plaque which harms appearance but is easily cleaned by hygienic procedures at home, the removal of tartar is possible in the clinic only. It is obvious that the main reason for the appearance of tartar is the gradual (more than six months) transformation of the remaining layer of food (plaque) into a thicker patch. More than 90% of colonies of bacteria that actively proliferate in the oral cavity have a negative effect on the gums. Gingivitis may develop. This “patch” does not only affect the external surface of the teeth but also breaks under the gums, which causes the formation of periodontitis. Attending the oral hygiene procedure at least once every six months will help you to forget about tartar.
What are implants?
Today in modern dentistry we often talk about dental implants. They are necessary for patients who have lost one or more teeth. The implant is considered an artificial tooth. But actually the implant is part of a structure consisting of a lining with a screw bracket. Implants are made of materials that are biocompatible with solid human tissues. The most popular solution is the manufacture of titanium implants and the most advanced method and the most expensive implants are made of zirconium oxide. After “screwing” into the bone tissue (and usually waiting for 3-4 months) the prosthetics begins. The main aims of the implant are the restoration of functions (eg, chewing) and aesthetics.
How long is the recovery after implantation?
The recovery rate after implantation depends on the number of teeth to be restored and, of course, on the complexity of the operation. To ensure the success of the procedure and make it and the recovery period fairly short, we perform the following actions:
– Initial research. Determination of implantation methods and contraindications;
– Tightened inspection. Consultation with a surgeon, periodontist, hygienist. The patient is offered a dental treatment plan, if necessary, since any problem of the oral cavity must be solved before inserting the implants;
– Operational stage. Implant installation. The duration of this mini-operation is up to 1 hour and it occurs under local anesthesia. The place in which the implant is screwed is prepared in advance. The second surgery is performed after healing of the place where the screw is installed;
– The stage of healing. The healing process takes from 3 to 6 months, depending on whether the implant is screwed in the upper or lower jaw.
– Prosthetics on implants. After the screws are installed in, the gum formers are installed, and the gums have healed, prosthetics can be started.
